From two dimensional Audio to real Surround Sound

Surround sound was limited to a single plane until Dolby Atmos and DTS:X added height, allowing the audience to immerse itself in a more realistic three-dimensional acoustical environment.

Dolby Atmos and DTS:X both can work with lossless high-resolution audio. Their biggest advantage is when used in conjunction with a 7.1 channel system plus in-ceiling speakers. This is referred to as 7.1.2 (two ceiling speakers) or 7.1.4 (four ceiling speakers).

If using two ceiling speakers, the speakers should be placed just slightly ahead of the main listening area with one to the left and one to the right.  If using four ceiling speakers, two speakers should be placed slightly ahead and two speakers placed slightly behind the main listening area, again one speaker from each pair placed to the left and the other to the right.

Waterfall Audio offers the ultimate acoustical and visual solution for all HiFi, audio-video and multiroom project requirements that suit any interior.

Audio is catching up

New audio formats have emerged to compliment the advances in video.

How much do you understand about  “object-based” audio?

The various audio effects exist as objects that are directed to positions around the listener as opposed to specific audio channels.  The surround sound system then maps the positions (coordinates) to the installed speaker configuration.  Dolby Atmos and DTS:X provide “object-based” audio.

A major benefit of object-based systems is providing a vertical aspect to the soundscape rather than just a horizontal plane.  Ceiling speakers produce a significant leap in realism over conventional surround sound.

How much do you know about UHD HDR?

Today’s higher video resolutions enable the viewer to place a larger screen

at the same viewing distance while preserving the video quality.

This is where UHD and HDR come into place.

HDR (High Definition Range) should not be confused with UHD (Ultra High Definition) aka 4K.

HDR makes the pixels more accurate -wider contrast and a larger color palette.

UHD is all about bumping up the pixel count.

The image improves because of HDR – quality of pixels over size/quantity of the pixels!

HDR completes the 4K picture.
